This tactic used by coach Popovich in the 2009 NBA playoffs has been a huge factor in the series and was one of the main reasons the Spurs were able to eliminate the Suns. However, I find this rule a disgrace to the game and is something that should be changed. As Doug Collins has proposed ( who back then was a play-by-play analyst for TNT) the team should get a free-throw shot and the possession for every foul committed of the ball. The Suns were up 9 in the 4th qtr of game 1 and this strategy allowed the Spurs to get back into it and win it in double Over Time. However, it did not stop here, the Spurs also used the Hack-a-Shaq tactic in all the games during the series.
